240 cores - that's just a marketing gimmick: those are not independent cores, but 240 dual-issued ALUs grouped in 10 clusters, each consisting of three 8-way multiprocessors.
BTW, performance plummets when you switch to double precision - RV770 might generate much more excitement among the HPC crowd.
